The Future of Medical Science Is Now :: essays research papers
The advances in modern medical science in the near future are dependent upon the advances of methods and procedures that by todayââ¬â¢s standards are considered to be taboo and dangerous. These methods will not only revolutionize the field of medicine but they will be the forerunners to a whole knew way to treat people. For these advances to take place several key steps need to be taken both medically and politically. In this paper I will attempt to explain what methods and procedures will be the future of modern medicine, how these methods and procedures can benefit mankind, and finally what changes will be needed in the fields of medicine and politics. à à à à à First, Iââ¬â¢ll attempt to explain which methods and procedures will be the future of modern medicine. The procedures that will be the future of modern medicine currently fall into the realms of taboo and fictional. These procedures encompass every aspect of medical science from exploration of the human body, curing of diseases, to improving a personââ¬â¢s quality of life. Many of these procedures are not very well known while a few have been in the spotlight. These procedures are; cloning, nano-robotics, retro-viruses, and genetic manipulation via gene-specific medications. For any serious breakthroughs in modern medical science we must embrace these new forms of treatment instead of shying away from them. à à à à à Second, Iââ¬â¢ll attempt to explain how these methods and procedures could benefit mankind. These procedures hold infinite possibilities in the practice healing the sick. Of all of the procedures mentioned cloning is the only method that has been given any amount of serious research. Cloning could do away with the need for organ transplants. Instead of a transplant a new organ could be cloned, thus removing any chance that the body might reject the organs. Nano-robotics could be used to fight off foreign infections and repair internal wounds. Retro-viruses and gene-specific medications could be used to alter a personââ¬â¢s genetic code, ridding a person of inherited maladies such as heart disease or diabetes. With the introduction of some, if not all, of these different methods of treating ailments we could effectively wipe out a large amount of diseases that would otherwise be untreatable. Senior citizens would no longer have to suffer from maladies such as Alzheimerââ¬â¢s or other such illnesses related with age. With these procedures a child can grow up never having to suffer from a learning disorder such as ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyper-activity Disorder) or even cases of mental retardation by eliminating or modifying the genes that are responsible for these and other problems.

Daimler-Chrysler: Post Merger News Analysis
1. The merger was expected to result in synergy from which attributes of each organization? With the merger, both profitable automobile companies, will have the opportunity to benefit from the potential of each other. They had both identified opportunities to increase sales, to create new markets for both while being able to expand their markets in new countries, to reduce purchasing costs and to realize enconomies of scale. The synergy would drive to product integration and ensure sharing of innovation, knowledge, technologies and ideas. At the time of the merger, Daimler Benz had close to 1% of the American Market, which Chrysler could aid them with this problem. Chrysler also wanted to enter into the European market, which Daimler Benz could help sell Chrysler products at their distribution centers in Europe. Mutually, the two companies expected to exploit on retail sales, purchasing, distribution, product design and research and development. And last but not least, Chryslerââ¬â ¢s Dream Team was an attribute that could be beneficial to the merger. It could work as an innovative addition to Daimler Benz to help them find ways to expand a limited Daimler Benz market. . What were the issues/problems encountered after the merger. One of the main problems with the merger was the cultural clash between management and work styles. Even thou they had fairly equal number of members of the board of management, the integration efforts lacked between the Americans and the Germans. They clearly had differences in management styles, processes, cultures and work styles, which resulted in an abyss between the two. Other issue encountered was the mocking and thought from Daimler Benz that Chrysler was low quality and poor in technology. This rejection reflected in a tangible manifestation of the growing separation when Daimler refused to offer Chrysler vehicles at their distribution centers for fear of ruining their image. This had been an essential key in planning for Chry sler to enter into the Europe market. Although they were clear that strict guidelines segregated the Daimler and Chrysler brands, synergies were expected from joint administrative functions, market research, vehicle and spare parts logistics, and wholesale operations. With this rejection, this wasnââ¬â¢t happening. They needed to work upon effective communication and overcome their cultural differences. . What went well with the merger? Although this companies underestimated the level of cultural difficulties they had to face in order to be successful, and in 2001 the merger resulted in the biggest lost in German business history, the beginning of the merger was well received by the public. Over the first years, the share price from DaimlerChrysler rose significantly, indicating that the public speculated that this merger could be good for all parties and the new company would be considered to have the potential to revolutionize the automobile industry. Also, management at the top level agreed and was on board to making the merger be successful. Management starting sharing plants and parts as to saving huge amounts of money. Furthermore, management agreed on cutting expenses such as fixed manufacturing cost and material costs. By the nine-month period, net income and revenues had increased 12 per cent. Operating profit had improved by 15 per cent. Clearly, the results are attained were higher than expected, therefore, this were some beneficial aspects of the merger. . Discuss the historical background that has most influenced Germany. It is said that countries, much like individuals, are influenced by their experiences. Therefore, one could say that the most influential historical events that have affected Germany and transformed the country to what it is today are: 1) its role in the first and second World Wars, 2) related periods of extreme inflation, and 3) the ââ¬Å"economic miracleâ⬠phenomenon of the post-WWII reconstruction of what was then West Germany.Every single one of these circumstances has had huge impact in Germanââ¬â¢s character in general: in the way Germans reason and behave. One example is how due to the hardships associated with wars, the fear and uncertainty, and the economic challenges of inflation, that Germans tend to be really risk averse, skeptical about organization and order, prefers security and structure and are way perfectionists. They are really focused when they want to achieve something and take pride on a job well done and highly performed. All this istory from 1914ââ¬â¢s until present day have taken part in shaping Germans to what they are today and their beliefs. 2. What are some of the cultural dimensions that have shaped German management? Some of Hoftedeââ¬â¢s and GLOBE cultural characteristics and dimensions are discussed in the reading to help explain the significant elements in the German culture that have shaped their management. The most significant elements in the German cult ure are: their high levels of uncertainty avoidance, assertiveness and individualism, and low levels of humane orientation and power distance.According to Hofstrede, Germanyââ¬â¢s power distance scores a 35. It is highly decentralized, which is supported by a strong middle class. They believe in a flatter organizational structure. A very good example is their welfare system. A direct and participative communication and meeting style is common, control is disliked and leadership is challenged to show expertise and best accepted when itââ¬â¢s based on it. Another dimension is individualism. Germany scores a 67 on the Hofstede scale making it one of the most individualistic countries in the world. In Individualist societies people are supposed to look after themselves and their direct family only. They are not team-oriented but rather task-oriented. They are better at following rules than managing personal relationships and being perceived as kind or nice. Germans are also honest to a fault about an individualââ¬â¢s mistake, but will give that individual a fair chance to learn from those mistakes as well. Another important dimension is that which indicates if a society is driven by competition, achievement and success: masculinity/femininity.According to Hofstede, Germany scores a 67 on the masculine/feminine scale, therefore is considered to be a more masculine society. Germans tend to value competition and high standard of quality. Are considered to be perfectionists and a highly trained workforce. Managers are decisive and assertive. Due to the hardships and uncertainties of war and economic struggles, Germans score a 65 in terms of uncertainty avoidance and risk aversion. This means German leaders prefer deductive approaches to planning and thinking. Germs like to be told what to do therefore; a systematic verview has to be given in order to proceed. This deductive way of thinking coupled with the low power distance, results in Germans to prefer compe nsating for their high uncertainty by strongly relying on expertise. And last but not least, Germans have a low Long Term Orientation, scoring a 31 on the Hofstede scale. Germans prefer quick results as well as a social pressure to keep up with the competition. In terms of management, Germans are impatient for achieving quick results and attain better and faster products than the competition. Germans do take pride in a job well done. All these cultural dimensions take part in defining and shaping German management and leadership. 3. Discuss in detail the leadership framework in Germany. The German culture focuses a great deal on the importance of knowing business unlike Americans that focus more on self-knowledge, cultural awareness and business acumen. German leaders are more specific and concentrated in a certain area (ââ¬Å"Fuhrung durch Fachwissenâ⬠). They are usually prepared to focus and in a specific subject matter since their power base of leaders is in their expertise rather than experience. It is known that German leadership strives on competency and expertise. As a result, German managers tend to be less able to develop effective visions for their organizations. Their fundamental mode of operation is that ââ¬Å"Deliver Quality and your business will succeed. â⬠They are well known for their organization and management but lack skills as innovators. In this way, Germans struggle to expand their businesses in creative and innovative ways. Also, German leader does believe in communication, which is to be very direct and straightforward.Germans desire a very structured framework in that each person should have clearly stated goals and objectives that will work for the overall success of the organization. For this reason, German leaders act as role models rather than bosses. They are very hand-on and translate their goals into actions hence, participate in the work processes (ââ¬Å"Stellvertreterâ⬠). They are not team-oriented and are hig h in uncertainty avoidance therefore makes German leaders to lack flexibility and difficult to them to cope with todayââ¬â¢s fast-moving global business environment. The current economic challenges Germany faces forces German leaders to focus on three critical areas upon improvement: 1) revise and asses in a broad non-technical manner, 2) focus on vision and attempt to take greater risks and set more visionary strategies, and 3) develop more well-rounded leaders with the strategic and interpersonal skills side. 4. Knowing more of the culture in Germany and the US, discuss the steps you would have recommended to the management to prevent the cultural issues for the Daimler Chrysler merger. The cultural clashes amongst USA and German cultures were the hardest thing to put together and make it work, which caused the merger to fail. As a result of the differences, the perceptions of both companies and their communication and understanding were never fair and transparent, causing tensio n and problems between the two. By making assignments and decisions fair across the board, the cultural differences could have been assuaged through increased communication channels and meetings.A clearer task description matrix could have been beneficial in the understanding of who was in charge of what and should consult whom. Since the beginning, it was sort of a game of putting and taking out people from job positions along with resignations. Their differences in management styles, processes, and cultural work styles, amongst other differences should have been discussed since the beginning and reaching a consensus was needed. For example, the problem caused because Americans did not want to use weekends to fly on or out for weekly meetings. This is the type of problem that could have been evaded with better communication, planning and understanding of each otherââ¬â¢s cultural preferences and work styles. Another aspect that affected the merger and should have been evaded was their goals and expectations of the merger. None were clear and discussed before the merger. A thorough plan and goals should have been discussed previous unifying. It was not clear how both would help each other achieve what desired. There was not a concrete plan. ââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬â-

Why are Keralans better of than other Indians?
There are many reasons why the people in Kerala have a better standard of living than in other Indian states. Some of the reasons are to do with nature and some are to do with human decisions. The State of Kerala is good for farming. There are many natural advantages, for example large amounts of precipitation, with 120-140 rainy days per year, Kerala has a wet, tropical climate, consequently making the soil incredibly fertile. The climate is very humid and wet, which is perfect to grow crops. A map of India: The government of Kerala made some unusual decisions about how to run the state. They introduced ââ¬Ëland reform,' which basically means the government give every family one hectare of land each. The government prevent the rich to own more then 10 hectares by buying the land off them, as a result everyone gets an opportunity to own something, this then gives the poor starting points to earn money, whereas in other Indian states the poor stay poor because they do not receive the level of help required. Over 1.5 million homeless families benefited from land reform. Land reform Meant Keralans could grow food on their properties for consumption (for survival) and sell it for a better standard of living. Many Keralans have stopped growing only rice and now have a greater variety of crops. Keralans now grow tapioca, ginger, banana's and coconuts. Farmers sell less rice because the rice from the state of Tamil Nadu is significantly cheaper because the workers get paid a considerably smaller wage. Keralans want to grow more profitable crops to be able to pay for after school classes for their children. Growing one hectare of rice gets only 25, 000 rupees but growing coconuts make 50, 000 rupees. Coconut palms, as an example, have many different uses. Coconuts can be used sell or consume, (ear or drink the juices). Used to make cosmetics, fuel for cooking, the residue from making oil is used for cattle food. Coconuts are useful for making mats and ropes. Coconut leaves are used to thatch roofs. Keralans are better educated than other Indians. Keralans are given free education, I personally think this is a beneficial idea to educate the children because they are the future, the Keralans are thinking about the long-term effects of a free education whereas the other Indian states do not give education unless the citizens give money. The Keralan government provide free education, however the classes are exceptionally large, as a result the children would not get the right amount of education necessary. This is why parents work hard on farms to produce the best quality of crops. Selling as much as possible and getting the largest possible yield means more money, that way the children have a better chance of doing well academically. Well educated Keralans get the opportunity to work abroad as they get more money this way, hence, wages for farm labourers are higher in Kerala than in the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu, as fewer workers are available. Money is sent home from abroad, for that reason, the Keralans have money to spend, they can afford manufactured goods and this encourages new businesses to start up. New jobs means more jobs available in Kerala other than farming which is very hard and tiring. Parents do not want their children to do that. People with jobs have a better standard of living. This all leads to a developed, better state for the people of Kerala to live in. I think that the state of Kerala is more developed than other parts of India because they can afford to spend money on manufactured goods, meaning more businesses are likely to start up. Because of this new jobs are available for the children that are not very intelligent or that did badly at school. The Keralan government realise that educating children is a necessity because when they are old and ill and need a doctor it will be one of those children, so in the future everyone benefits from this.

Challenges and most effective measures Essay
Population has been growing drastically for several years. It is shown that the world population has increased from 2 billions in 1930 to 6.8 billion in 2010 (Black, 2010). Feeding such a rapidly growing population has always had many challenges, however, with the population expectancy of 9 billions by 2050 only adds to the already very omnipresent pressure and concerns. In a world where already one billion people are currently suffering from chronic hunger , it is time to have a plan with solutions that will allow to feed a quickly expanding population growth. This essay will explore those the different measures that can be taken such as; using resources more efficiently shifting diets away from meat and reducing food waste while overcoming the endless challenges that are constantly faced. Three interlinked challenges are to be surmounted, the worldââ¬â¢s food system must guarantee that all seven billion people alive today are adequately fed; it must double food production in the next 40 years; and it must achieve both goals while becoming truly environmentally sustainable. One of the measures to do so is by using resources much more efficiently leading to a much higher crop output per unit of water, fertilizer and energy. To do so there are three different actions that agriculture can adopt throughout the world. The first one is knows as drip irrigation which is the technique of applying water directly onto the plant instead of wasting water by usually spraying into the air. The second technique is mulching which is the action of coating the soil with organic matter in order for the moisture to be retained by the soil which will also reduce the water lost from irrigation systems as it will reduce the amount of evaporation let out from reservoirs and canals. Another dilemma comes from the use of fertilizers. While some lands lack many nutrients and therefore have poor crop production, other have too many nutrients which results in creating pollution. Many countries are believed to be able to reduce using fertilizers whit little or no impact on food production, examples are China, Northern India, Central U.S. and Western Europe. Another measure that can be taken to fulfill the feeding of the worldââ¬â¢s population is shifting our diet to an all plant diet. Shifting away from meat product as simple at it seems would have a huge impact on the foodà available for humans by using more of our crops to feed people directly and less to fatten livestock. ââ¬ËGlobally, humans could net up to three quadrillion additional calories every year ââ¬â a 50 percent increase from our current supply ââ¬â by switching to all-plant diets.ââ¬â¢ (Foley, 2011) Moreover, switching to an all-plant diet has more benefits as a balanced diet made of grains and different types of vegetables is considered healthier than a diet composed of red meats along diary products. This measure is seen as the hardest and is in need of better understanding. ââ¬ËNaturally our preferences are unlikely to change completely. Still, even small shifts in diet, say from grain-fed beef to poultry, pork or pasture-fed beef, can pay off.â â¬â¢ (Foley, 2011) The most important measure that should highly be taken is reducing food waste in production and distribution. Although it may come off as an obvious measure, it is rarely followed. ââ¬ËRoughly 30 to 40% of food in both the developed and developing worlds is lost to wasteââ¬â¢ (Godfray et al, 2010) In the more developed countries, food waste tends to happen from the consumerââ¬â¢s side. Changing our consumption ways could have a significant effect on the losses we generate. Avoiding throwing food in the trash, avoiding overly big portions and avoiding restaurants and takeouts on a daily basis are all examples of how to reduce food waste. In poorer countries however, food waste happens from the producerââ¬â¢s side. An under-developed base and markets leading to food not being delivered, crops wrecked by pests are all ways by which food is wasted in under-developed countries. There are several ways in which food wastage could be prevented, although no food wastage at all is nonsensical, a smaller amount of it is still achievable. ââ¬ËImproved storage, refrigeration and distribution systems can cut waste appreciably.ââ¬â¢ (Foley, 2011) As said by Godfray et al, (2011) there is no simple solution to sustainably feeding 9 billion people. However different measures can be taken to maximize the output while using the resources at a rate that does not exceed the capacity of the earth to replace them. Achieving a reduction in the consumption, allowing introduction to cold storage and public investment in transport infrastructure would all lead to a more efficientà food production system. The biggest challenge that will be confronted by society is coming up with ways to feed 9 billion people while being sustainable. It will require inventiveness, awareness, purposefulness and most importantly an extensive amount of labor. It will require people from all over the world to come together and work along one another. There is no time to lose. References Black, R 2010, Global population study launched by Royal Society. BBC News, viewed December 8th, 2013 Godfray, H. C. J., Benddington, J. R., Crute, I. Thermal Storage Systems Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Thermal Storage Systems - Research Paper Example A basic thermal storage system ââ¬Å"cools a storage medium then saves the stored cool medium to be reused at another time.â⬠(Washington State University) What is meant by defining thermal storage systems is simply that energy is stored and then used at a later time. The storing of this energy allows the user to save. The energy that was saved is not wasted and can be used when needed. Many traditional heating and cooling systems waste too much energy. That is why thermal storage systems are so convenient. What would normally be wasted is saved and used for later. The main way that a thermal storage system can be used is by allowing energy to be stored and saved for later. A residential installation of thermal energy storage systems can help cool a house. A home can store energy in the thermal energy storage system at night when it is cool, and then distribute the stored energy during the day when it is most needed. This is a money saving way to cool a home. This same process will also apply to small commercial businesses. The system can be modified to fit existing systems but the system will require an area to be used to store energy. This storage area can be located in a crawl space, basement or a large enough utility room. Using thermal energy storage systems for air conditioning is complex in a way but easy to operate.

Support an Issue - Assignment Example Moreover, I will also demonstrate how technology eases learning processes in the classrooms. There is need for technology to be integrated the K-12 education system to facilitate a higher order capacity of thinking such as both critical and independent thoughts and the improved level of motivation in learning. This paper summarizes the intensive contribution of technology in the sector of education amongst schools in the United States of America. Introduction Over the last two decades, the education sector has experienced quick advancements in technology. Looking back 30 years ago, application of computers in the classroom was not a common phenomenon let alone in homes. A student harboring a thought of using common text editors like word processor was the weirdest thing ever in recent times. Today, students have been in cooperated into the digital world making the education system to be interesting and informative (Goldin, & Katz, 2008). According to sources, digital world is the con temporary world whereby people employ technology in day to day activities to achieve set objectives. In banking industry for instance, computer program application has been employed to facilitate transactions, processing of cheques and general management of braches through the distributed system platform. Consequently, learning institutions have realized that technology contributes highly on academic success and it also eases delivery of academic knowledge to students. Technology is beneficial in schools since it serves the need of disabled learners, remote areas and also facilitates e-learning curriculum (Goldin, & Katz, 2008). Computers have stimulated activities In learning by assisting the students to develop high thinking capacity. Historically, technological deployment has been linked correlated between inventions and communication with the advancement in the K-12 system of education. E -learning at all level of education is rated among the latest technological advancement in contemporary world with benefit both teachers and learners. Recent applications in the education system a growing populace of learners through the internet have posed to be quite a challenge to teachers because they have to adapt to the ever changing technology. Computers have an in cooperated unique ability to enable class multimedia presentation and also enhance instructor-student communication through online instruction format. Scholars show optimism that the rapid advancement in technology will enhance quality education delivery in years to come ((Goldin, & Katz, 2008).). Positive effect on academic excellence Academic success is traditionally measured in terms of achieving good grades among students in learning institutions. Since the bill of ââ¬Å"No child left behindâ⬠enactment in The United States of America, teachers have a moral obligation of ensuring that student from all walks of lives excel in their academic work. Technology plays a fundamental role in enabling s uccess and facilitating learning. According to researchers conducted recently, computer simulation and Instructional Leaning systems (ILS) facilitate issuing of instruction by educators to students (Goldin, & Katz, 2008). A recent by Stamford IT research center reported that learners whose educators employ technology attain higher grades as compared to those
