But new business products must be examined and thought out carefully, as to not over-saturate the market and loose competitive advantage. There are opportunities valued at more than $1 trillion (USD) and the sectors of real estate, water, electricity, construction, oil and gas services will be the leading players in the field. Research is showing that France is leading the way to be the next big market for Islamic finance and banking. There is a significant Muslim population in the country and opportunities exist not only amongst the practicing Muslim population, but also with individuals who have been through the financial crisis and are seeking safer alterna tives to managing and investing their money. The government of France is in discussions regarding Islamic finance and how to integrate it into the financial system. Research shows spending on technology for Islamic banking will increase significantly in the coming years, upwards of 60 million USD. It is noted that conventional banks will turn their eyes on Islamic finance and begin to embrace it, as the financial crisis continues and institutions look to assure customers that they are acirc;â‚ ¬Ã…“safeacirc;â‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ and open for business. For Western conventional banks to enter Islamic banking, understanding of and adopting Shariah law is imperative. There are opportunities, however, bank systems, processes, in-house products and external products will be affected. Also, Islamic banks have become a reality in the banking and international life after it made its way in the banking environments quite different in terms of foundations and rules and mechanisms from th ose of Islamic rules and spirit (Al-Rawashadah). Islamic banks are a new experiment proved largely successful in a prevailing capitalist system where traditional banks were based on one foundation that is the interest rates. While Islamic banks have taken Islam to be the source of practicing the banking and have also taken the Islamic investment modes to guide it but complied with the legal provisions to face banking updates, according the European Journal of Sciences (Al-Rawashadah). In Islamic banking, it has been shown that the takaful market is currently concentrated in Malaysia and the Middle East. It has been on a rapid expansion and has been experiencing significant growth. There are currently more than 130 takaful companies in operation worldwide, of which nearly half are to be found in the Gulf nations of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. The takaful growth rate in these countries is well ahead of the conventional insurance market in the region. Wit h regard to takaful, the market is expected to be worth $4 billion in the next few years at the present rate of expansion, compared with about $170 million today. Western institutions are taking note and seeking to enter this market, as it has proven to be safer and more stable than conventional banks were markets collapsed (Mohammed, Faiz Azimi). However, when looking to the future for development and strategy, it is also expected that Islamic financial institutions, including banks, may encounter difficulties and heavy losses reflected in a decline in market share and pressure on the levels of profitability, given the modest capabilities and capacities of some banks as compared with traditional financial institutions that have a significant comparative advantage, particularly in the banking services (Al-Mulla, 2002). In order for Islamic banks to benefit from the positive aspects of banking services trade liberalization agreements, they will need to plan for this by identifying features of the strategy (Al-Rawashadah). In addition, Islamic banks will have to keep pace with technology and any relevant advancement of technology in financial services. According to Al-Rawashadah, acirc;â‚ ¬Ã…“The quest to keep pace with technological development must be a key target for Islamic banks to be configured to compete locally and abroad, provided that this be done, according to a deliberate strategy and a clear vision and appropriate technologies for the economic realities of the Islamic banks.acirc;â‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ New Aspects First, increase investment in technology so as to make a real breakthrough in Islamic banks use of modern technologies. Also, a strong focus on electronic banking services that Islamic banks find a competitive advantage in, such as Islamic banking services. And lastly, the preparation and training and development of human resources skills in dealing with the modern mechanisms in order to increase the prospects for growth and profitability of Islamic banks. (Al-Rawashadah) In some countries with a majority of Muslim population, such as Nigeria, Pakistan, Egypt and Bangladesh, the takaful market can be considered very much in the early and development stages. These are almost totally untapped markets, in which insurance penetration nears somewhere below 2% of GDP. There are estimates that the global takaful markets are growing at around 20 percent per year. The Next Steps Islamic financial institutions have been able to enter global markets successfully, with an estimated $700 billion in assets under management (Al-Salem). The size of Islamic financial dealings affects local markets in certain countries, such Malaysia, Bahrain, and Indonesia. However, its impact on global financial markets can still only be regarded as developing given its current small size (El Qorchi, 2005). In addition to meeting Islamic Code requirements and satisfying the needs of Moslem customers, the expansion of Islamic financial services to customers around the world has been helped by the growth in information technology and by the new legislation passed in many countries, both of which have made the movement of funds more flexible and created a window of opportunity for Islamic banks and financial institutions (Al Muzaini, 2005). Although few in number and slow to develop, there is strong demand for Islamic investment products. However, today, in some Muslim-dominated nations, there is a wide gap between the number of conventional or traditional institutions and the number of Islamic institutions, especially banks, operating in the various countries. Some of these latter traditional or conventional institutions are more than 200 years old, compared with the oldest Islamic institution in Kuwait, which as started only 30 years ago. An increase is expected in the number of relationships developed to establish new Islamic Banks, in the provision of licenses for Moslem-related insurance companies, and in the number of new geographic markets for Islamic banks and financial institutions, such as Malaysia (CIBAEI, 2006).

The Importance of Religion - 1516 Words

Religion plays an integral part in individuals lives, both personally and in societies as sociologists, such as Émile Durkheim and Max Weber, try to understand its impact through the beliefs and functions it holds. Religion is the very basis that some people may live their lives by which their everyday behaviours and actions are influenced. Beyond the behaviour and action, religion may help one find peace with them self and be able to make an identity as some people see their religion as who they are. The beliefs and values, whether shared or not, can bring societies together in a positive way. In Canada, religion has made an integrative impact with the variety of churches, mosques, and temples that have been created for the diverse communities. Through Durkheim’s view, religion has a very positive role in societies and in shaping individuals. Ghosts of Mississippi essays

Ghosts of Mississippi essays On the night of June 13th 1963, President John F. Kennedy was giving his speech on Civil Rights. Among the many thousands of people in America viewing this event on National Television were Myrlie Evers and her three children. Suddenly, this occurrence was rudely disrupted by the deathly sound of a loud gunshot. Frantically running to their driveway, Myrlie and the kids found Medgar Evers shot in the back and lying in a pool of blood gasping for his last breath. Myrlie clung on to her husbands body as she and the children wept for this mans life. Almost thirty years later, the man charged with this murder would be tried again in a court of law, in front of a different jury of eight blacks and four whites. Justice was going to be served in the state of Mississippi no matter how long it was going to take. This murder case was tried in the racist state of Mississippi in the racist period of 1963. The judge was also a racist white man by the name of Moore and the jury consisted of twelve men. All white. Much evidence was presented to the court, such as the gun used to kill Medgar Evers consisting of fingerprints belonging to the convicted, Byron de la Beckwith. Byron and his vehicle were also spotted at the parking lot of Joes Drive-thru, a block away from the Evers household, on the night of the murder. On the other hand, two white men, Holly and Cresswell, claimed to have witnessed Byron de la Beckwith at a gas station in Greenwood, 90-95 miles away from the scene, on the same night. This case was tried twice ending both times in a hung jury, leaving Byron innocent and free of charge. Twenty-six years later, on October 1989, Myrlie Evers seeks to reopen the Medgar Evers case. A Mississippi lawyer named Bobby Delaughter, the son-in-law of Judge Moore, slowly took this task into his hands and dug up information and such on this forgotten trial. Upon making this decision, his wife leaves him, but he l...

Texting and driving Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Texting and driving - Research Paper Example This paper shall exclusively try to relate texting while driving, and how the two must be kept separate when either one of these is committed into. Since texting is so common these days, the drivers do not feel the urge to park their cars at a safe location and then do the texting. Talking whilst driving might sound reasonable considering one receives the calls as and when these come, but texting can take a while to respond back. People need to realize the gravity of the problem that can linger on their heads and then find a solution to have a remedy for the same (Hermes, 2010). The remedy can be in terms of stopping one’s car and then finding the most appropriate place to park the car and do the texting bit. Recent accidents have proven that the drivers who were texting whilst driving have had more than 400 percent of their concentration diverted while doing this act. They completely block their minds and concentrate wholly and solely on what are written on the cell phone scr eens. They give up the idea that they are driving and respond to what all the content has been about. This is a grave situation which must be dealt with a stern hand, because many people can suffer on this count and are still suffering with each passing day, around the world. The cell phones can wait, they must and they should! After all, it is just a device which must not take one’s life. It does not have the power to take one’s life, but what is happening here is a totally different act altogether. The cell phones thwart the entire basis of a person’s concentration when he is driving. What this suggests is the fact that the cell phones are the attention diverters, and essentially break the ice between the concentration that the individuals have with the road and their car whilst driving (Squire, 2009). The sound of the cell phone message is enough for them to forget that they were on the car and start depending on what is written on the Inbox within their cell phones. This is a horrendous understanding which has been established by people in this day and age, where maximum concentration is laid on the fact that people need to be on their feet at all times, without any shortcomings coming to their fore, which is not humanly acceptable and possible. The birth of a social networking phenomenon has highlighted a number of negatives than bringing out any sheer advantages for the people. It is an acceptable proposition that the cell phones do create social linkages amongst people but this is no way means that the people can take their lives for granted, as well as the people who are around them (Author Unknown, 2010). A sense of empathy seems to be the missing ingredient within the thick of things, and for this proper efforts need to be made to make sure that sanity does creep in within the relevant equations. The social networking premise is such an important one that it will do away with the basics of spending a normal living pattern and bri ng into close proximity tools like cell phones and the like to remain in close contact with the people, no matter where they are and what kind of environments they are a part of. What must matter is the fact that cell phones do have to be used, and driving is no exception within the related folds. People need to unlearn what they have learned within the new dimension of cell phone usage and the

The Relationship between Mrs. Lyons and Mrs. Johnston Essay Example for Free

The Relationship between Mrs. Lyons and Mrs. Johnston Essay Ok well, Mrs Lyons employs Mrs Johnston to work for her. Mrs Lyons cant have children, but Mrs Johnston (Known as the mother) has too many. When Mrs J finds out she is going to have twins she is upset as she cant afford them. Mrs Lyons persuades Mrs J to let her adopt one of the twins. Mrs Lyons is very aware of her social and financial position and she uses it to influence Mrs J. (She offers to pay her for the baby at one point I think. ) Mrs Lyons also comes across as very cruel and uncaring. She acts in a very formal way towards Mrs J and wants her own way. She is clearly desperate to have a child, and doesnt have any qualms about splitting the twins up, meanwhile Mrs J does. She is also quite conniving as she eventually tricks Mrs J into giving her the baby. Mrs Johnston is the opposite in a sense as she is kind and approachable. (Despite the narrator calling her heartless at the beginning) She is frightened of Mrs Lyons as she is aware of her own position. (Socially, financially.) She is not very intelligent as she is tricked by Mrs Lyons. The mother is superstitious too, (this is shown by the shoes on the table incident) she also believes Mrs Lyons when she tells her that the twins will die if they find out. Basically, Mrs Lyons is aware of the two womens positions and is cruel enough to use it to her advantage. She does not care for the mother, but cares about the baby very much. She just sees the mother as a way of getting a child. Mrs Johnston is frightened by Mrs Lyons, but trusts her. She just wants the best for her baby. Sorry if that was a little vague, if you need anymore help feel free to mail me. Ive probably forgotten some things; I havent read the play in a while. Hope I helped!

One Place I Would Like to Visit on a Class Trip Essay -- Personal Narr

One Place I Would Like to Visit on a Class Trip New York City is the one place I would very much like to visit on our next class trip. New York City is very large and has lots of exciting and educational activities, such as going to the theater, museums, landmarks and shopping. New York City is located in the state of New York, only 30 minutes to Newark Airport in New Jersey. It makes a perfect place for a class trip. The tourist season runs the entire year, making visiting time flexible. New York City is usually packed with people making the city look very overcrowded. Often there are so many people on the sidewalks you have to walk in the street. People are walking in every direction. You will even see horses and buggies waiting to pick up tourist for a tour of the city,. The place looks very congested, and it doesn?t look like such an enjoyable class trip spot at first, but with a little bit of the spirit of adventure there is tons of things to see. New York City has beautiful skyscrapers. One unique place, the Twin Towers, is very neat. It towers above all the other buildings. It has an elevator that can take you up over 100 stories in about three minutes. When you reach the top there is an observation area where you can see the entire city and surrounding islands. One of the other interesting places in the Intrepid. The Intrepid is an actual retired aircraft carrier. It is now open to the public for a small fee. The Intrepid has been left the same as it was while in active duty, so you can observe original aircraft carrier weapons and equipment. We could walk from the Twin Towers to the Intrepid, as they are both located in the lower part of New York City.. We could make the walk in less than a half-hour. Another day we can go to the Museum of Natural History, where among other things, there are real dinosaur bones. New York City has lots of activities to do at night also. It doesn?t have to be strictly educational, we can take in some fun entertainment too. There is Caroline?s Comedy Club on Broadway, which features different well-known comedian?s every night of the week. There are movie theaters that have 25 different movies at a time. There is also laser tag. Laser tag is very exciting and fun. The place that I would suggest is in the Times Square area. They have a lot of equipment and a large playing area. Th... ...ets. When you?re through, you can either go on to the game room, which has everything imaginable, or you can sign up again for another laser session. Another interesting activity New York City has to offer is the Big Apple Double-decker Tour. First, the tour bus takes you to the lower part of New York City, where you will see the business area. An interesting part of that area is Wall Street, where all the stocks are traded. Next, you go on to midtown, where they will make a stop at Central Park. You can stay longer than the 5 minute break, and catch the next double-decker if you choose. The tour then continues on to uptown, pointing out interesting things like Harlem and Columbia University, to name a few. I think New York City would be the perfect place for a class trip. It has many wonderful activities such as theaters, museums, landmark buildings and shopping. It has unforgettable things to do. The Twin Towers is one of the most unique places. Up until recently they were the largest buildings in the world. New York City is a wonderful place. When I went to New York City I enjoyed it very much, and I recommend it as a place we should visit on our class trip.
